Community Testing Pilot

Bactosure is proud to launch an innovative community water testing pilot across Te Tai Tokerau. This initiative aims to improve access to affordable, reliable, and accredited drinking water testing, ensuring safer drinking water for rural communities.

About the Pilot

Beginning May 2025, this pilot will establish up to fifteen community testing hubs throughout Te Tai Tokerau. These hubs, located at schools (kura), marae, NGOs, and other local organisations, will offer convenient and cost-effective water testing for harmful bacteria such as E. coli and total coliforms.

Why Community Testing?

Every year, up to 34,000 New Zealanders experience gastrointestinal illness caused by contaminated drinking water. By establishing local testing hubs, we’re significantly reducing the cost and inconvenience associated with traditional laboratory tests, which typically require long-distance travel.

Tests through this pilot cost just $20—approximately half to a quarter of traditional lab prices, removing barriers to essential health services.

Become a Community Testing Hub

We’re inviting local organisations—including kura, marae, community centres, and NGOs—to become community testing hubs. Help protect your community by making safe drinking water testing accessible.

Accredited and Trusted Testing

Our testing methods are fully accredited by International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) under the stringent ISO17025 standards, complying fully with the Water Services Act. Developed in New Zealand, our testing approach is the first of its kind globally—an automated, remote biological testing service designed specifically for rural and remote communities.
