Still want to know more about how it works?

Here are a few things that people usually ask about Bactosure.
If your query is still not resolved, refer to our FAQ’s section or contact our customer support

What technology does Bactosure use for testing?

Bactosure’s technology is a compact laboratory grade incubator and test media to grow organisms to a detectable level. Optical sensors monitor the sample every few seconds and precisely detect a positive result. The device estimates the initial bacterial population based on the speed at which detection happens. The faster the detection speed, the higher the initial bacterial population.

How does Bactosure's testing technology differ from traditional water testing methods?

Bactosure has automated, or improved, almost every control found in laboratories. This ensures the reliability of the test result. Automating the process:

  • allows a customer to find out the result as soon as a positive result is detected.
  • removes human error from reading the result.
  • allows results to be impartially reported to regulators even though the customer runs the test.
How does the device differentiate between E. coli and total coliforms in its testing process?

Bactosure uses a test media that turns the sample yellow in the presence of total coliforms and fluorescent in the presence of E. coli. The device is equipped with sensors to automatically distinguish between E. coli and total coliforms, providing precise and targeted water quality assessments.

Is Bactosure an accredited laboratory?

Yes. Bactosure is accredited by International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) as both a water testing laboratory and a biological testing laboratory. Because IANZ is a signatory to the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation Mutual Recognition Arrangement (ILAC MRA), our reports are recognised in more than 100 countries worldwide. You can view our accreditation scopes at the links below:

Which countries can use Bactosure?

Bactosure is currently operating in New Zealand and Australian markets, however, we can support shipments to customers in the Pacific Islands, excluding Hawaii.

What are the pricing options for Bactosure's testing services?

Pricing can be viewed on our Products page.

Pricing is made up of four components:

  • An initial setup fee. This is a one-off cost per device.
  • A subscription fee, which covers the cost of the device rental and maintenance.
  • The testing kit cost, which depends on the number of tests needed.
  • Shipping costs.
What kind of support and resources does Bactosure provide to ensure effective water testing?

Bactosure offers comprehensive support including training, customer service, and educational resources to ensure users can effectively utilise its testing solutions.

Does Bactosure report results to regulatory authorities?

Bactosure treats all data as confidential. We may provide this data to third parties with your consent or if required to by law. In New Zealand, Bactosure must report positive E. coli and total coliform results in drinking water to Taumata Arowai.

How do customers access report test results using Bactosure's technology?

Customers can access reports directly through Bactosure’s secure web platform. This offers a user-friendly interface for data entry, analysis, and report generation.

In what ways can the device operate in areas with limited internet connectivity?

The device is equipped with options for offline data storage and later syncing, ensuring it can function effectively in areas with unstable or limited internet access. Bactosure provides final reports after data has been sent to our server.

You can also upgrade to a 4G-NB-IoT capable device to connect seamlessly over the mobile network. This option is ideal if you want to run tests in locations without Wi-Fi access, so that you can maintain uninterrupted data uploads.
